Carole J. Symer, Ph.D.
20 + years of experience as a psychologist, teacher, and consultant
Specializing in Neuropsychology, Psychotherapy, and Psychoanalysis
I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and a neuropsychologist, licensed in New York and Michigan. In my clinical work, I see children, adolescents, adults, couples and families. I lead reading groups, supervise clinicians, and teach on a variety of subjects pertaining to human development. I consult with parents, medical professionals, and educators on how to nurture people of all ages.
As a psychologist, teacher, and human being, I listen to people. I listen to what they are saying or struggling to say at every phase of our work together. Together, with each client, I take the time it takes to fine-tune our therapeutic efforts, to notice feelings, and to recognize what each of us brings to the conversation: a mind and a psyche, as well as a body and a life we are trying to build—one that will allow for more pleasure, joy, and purpose.
I see people who are working through anxiety, depression, traumas, learning attention and memory difficulties, feeling stuck or lonely, gender/sexuality questions, relationship dilemmas, body image struggles & eating disorders, addictions (including to screens and video games).
I welcome the opportunity to listen to you and see how I can help you step into the changes you desire.
